Health experts have urged Ugandans to consider having weighing scales in their homes as a simple yet effective way to track their body mass index (BMI) regularly, whether daily, weekly, or monthly.
The call was made by Francis Omaswa, a representative from the African Centre for Global Health and Social Transformation, during the closure of the National Annual Conference on Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases.
Omaswa explained that regularly monitoring one’s weight can significantly reduce the risk of developing non-communicable diseases, as it helps individuals stay informed about their health.
He also encouraged Ugandans to embrace locally sourced foods, highlighting that avoiding processed junk foods is a crucial step in reducing the risk of non-communicable diseases.
Omaswa further emphasized the importance of lifestyle choices and weight management, noting that these factors play a critical role in an individual’s long-term health.
He urged the public to take responsibility for their health by actively engaging in preventive measures.
Non-communicable diseases, which include diabetes, heart disease, and ulcers, continue to pose a major health challenge in Uganda and across the world.
