KACITA Acting Chairman Issa Ssekitto Arrested in Connection with Alleged Incitement and Assault

KACITA Acting Chairman Issa Ssekitto Arrested

Issa Ssekitto, the Acting Chairman of the Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA), has been arrested by police at the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala.

He is being held to assist in investigations into allegations of incitement and assault on police officers.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the arrest on Thursday, stating that investigators have not yet recorded Ssekitto’s statement or determined the specific charges he faces.

The arrest follows a police operation on Wednesday in which thirteen other individuals were detained at CPS on similar charges of inciting violence and assaulting officers on duty.

The case file has now been forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for review and legal guidance.

ASP Owoyesigyire added that the police will continue to maintain a strong presence in Kampala’s city centre to deter any illegal activities and uphold law and order during this period of heightened tensions among some traders over ongoing economic and operational disputes.
