The Deputy Chief Justice, Flavian Zeija, today officiated the opening of the Court of Appeal’s criminal session at Kabale High Court.

The session, which will run for three days, is being presided over by a panel of three justices: Justice Fredrick Egonda Ntende, Justice Oscar John Kihika, and Justice Jesse Rugyema Byaruhanga.

A total of 30 appeals are set to be heard, including cases of murder, defilement, robbery, and other serious offenses.

According to the court’s cause list, murder cases make up the largest category, with 12 appeals, followed by 10 appeals of aggravated defilement.

Four appeals involve aggravated robbery, and two relate to kidnap with intent to murder.

There will also be one appeal each for rape and manslaughter.

The session is scheduled to conclude on Thursday, November 6, 2025, and is part of ongoing efforts to reduce the case backlog within Uganda’s judicial system.

In addition to the court session, the Deputy Chief Justice is also expected to preside over the commissioning of the Kamwenge Chief Magistrates Court on November 5, 2025.
