NUP Forms Legal Team to Support Traders Affected by Kampala Floods

Kampala Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Shamim Malende

The opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has formed a team of lawyers to assist traders affected by recent flooding in Kampala, following the heavy downpour on Friday, October 31st.

The legal team, led by Kampala Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Shamim Malende and deputized by Counsel Samuel Muyizi, will work to help the affected traders seek justice and compensation.

At a press briefing today at the NUP headquarters in Makerere Kavule, party Secretary General Lewis Lubongoya announced that the legal team would provide free legal assistance to those whose properties were destroyed in the flood.

He explained that the team’s primary objective is to ensure that traders are treated fairly and receive adequate compensation for their losses.

Lubongoya stated that the legal team will work closely with the affected traders to collect evidence, file claims, and represent them in court.

By doing so, NUP aims to offer relief to the traders while also holding accountable those responsible for the damage caused by the floods.

In his remarks, Lubongoya also pointed fingers at President Yoweri Museveni and Kampala Minister Hajati Misa Kabanda, accusing them of allowing city tycoon Hamis Kiggundu to construct the Nakivubo Channel without proper guidelines from the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), which he argued contributed to the flooding.
