Police Confirm Arrest of 10 NUP Supporters Over Attack on Law Enforcement Officers

Police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke

Police have confirmed the arrest of 10 National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters involved in a violent attack on law enforcement officers during a campaign event on October 28, 2025.

The incident took place near Obot A Village in Lira District, where a group of NUP supporters ambushed a police vehicle, UBK 380Q, that was accompanying presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine).

The attackers punctured the vehicle’s tires, stole police equipment including two jerricans of diesel, a laptop, and a bag of clothing and vandalized the car.

The arrested individuals, identified as Precious Paul Ssembusi, Ismail Bukenya, Liberty Lokoro, Mastura Nakabuye, Raston Waiswa, Hope Nasozi, Saliman Kagwa, Regan Kamulegeya, Stephen Katamba, and Alison Lubega, are currently being held at Lira City Central Police Station while investigations continue.

In a statement, police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke condemned the attack, noting that the perpetrators falsely claimed the police vehicle was interfering with communications. Rusoke added that this incident follows similar attacks on officers in Mayuge and Kyankwanzi districts earlier in the year.

The police have vowed to take strict action against any further violent acts, warning that any disruptions to peaceful campaigning would be met with swift legal measures.

Authorities have also called on all political groups to respect the law and maintain order throughout the campaign period.
