Minister Muhoozi Explains Security Forces’ Raid on Hotel in Lira City

Minister of State for Internal Affairs, David Muhoozi

The Minister of State for Internal Affairs, David Muhoozi, has explained that the security forces’ raid at a hotel in Lira city, where National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu was staying, was conducted in pursuit of a fugitive believed to be part of Kyagulanyi’s entourage.

The incident, which took place last night, raised concerns in Parliament.

Muwanga Kivumbi, the Acting Leader of the Opposition and Member of Parliament for Butambala County, called for an explanation regarding the security forces’ actions, especially given the involvement of a presidential candidate.

In his response, Minister Muhoozi informed Parliament that preliminary reports indicated that the police were searching for a fugitive named Geoffrey Ozima, who was believed to have been hiding at the hotel.

However, the suspect was not found during the raid, and the police confirmed that the search for him is still ongoing.

Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa also took the opportunity to urge the police to exercise peace and professionalism during the ongoing electoral campaigns.

He emphasized the need to avoid confrontations with candidates and to ensure the safety and security of all individuals involved in the political process.
