Archbishop Ssemogerere Consecrates Kyambogo University Chapel, Encourages Students to Uphold Faith and Morality

Archbishop Ssemogerere Consecrates Kyambogo University Chapel

The Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, today consecrated the newly constructed Kyambogo University Chapel, dedicated to the Uganda Martyrs.

In his homily, Archbishop Ssemogerere urged the university community to use the chapel as a sanctuary to foster faith, hope, and love.

He particularly addressed the students whom he identified as the primary Catholic community within the chaplaincy and encouraged them to maintain purity and holiness in their lives, reminding them that their bodies are temples of God.

He emphasized that the chapel should not only serve as a space for prayer, but also as a place that would help students grow into people of substance, both during their time at the university and beyond.

The Archbishop also cautioned students against the numerous challenges that threaten their spiritual and moral integrity, such as drug abuse, the irresponsible use of social media, and immorality.

He encouraged them to remain strong in their faith and resist these temptations.

He commended the university’s chaplains for their continuous efforts in providing spiritual nourishment, which, he noted, has played a crucial role in strengthening the faith and well-being of the students.

In addition to the chapel’s consecration, Archbishop Ssemogerere performed several significant rites during the mass.

These included dedicating the church to God, imparting the sacrament of confirmation to six candidates, blessing the Catholic Pastoral Council members, and blessing and commissioning the construction site for Fr. John Scalabrini’s project.

Rev. Fr. Raphael Ddamba, the University Chaplain, expressed his gratitude to the Kyambogo University community and all those who contributed to the chapel’s construction.

He also thanked the university management for donating the land for the chapel and for their ongoing support and guidance.

Among the notable attendees were Head of Laity Kampala, Emily Kitto Mwaka, and her deputy, as well as Kyambogo University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Prof. Maria Gorreti Nassali Musoke.

The event marked a significant milestone for the university community, offering a space for spiritual growth and reflection for both students and staff alike.
