Parliament this afternoon observed a moment of silence in honor of the late Rt. Rev. Bishop Charles Martin Wamika, who passed away on October 22, 2025.
The tribute took place during the plenary session presided over by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, who also delivered his communication to the House.
Deputy Speaker Tayebwa eulogized Bishop Wamika as a devout servant of God who made significant contributions to the nation’s development pillars, particularly in the areas of education, poverty eradication, and community empowerment.
In the same sitting, Parliament also paid tribute to the families of victims who lost their lives in a fatal road accident that occurred on October 23, 2025, at Kiryandongo along the Kampala–Gulu highway, which claimed 46 lives.
Deputy Speaker Tayebwa extended condolences to the bereaved families and called upon the Traffic Police and the Ministry of Works and Transport to strictly enforce road safety regulations in order to safeguard all road users and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
