A Special meeting to plan for funeral of Bishop Wamika

A special sitting is taking place this afternoon at Bugembe Cathedral the headquarters of Jinja Catholic Diocese for the official communication to honour the late Rt. Bishop Charles Martin Wamika.

The urgent planning meeting today Thursday 23rd 2025 at 2pm at Rubaga Parish Hall Jinja has been called by the Rev. Fr. Charles Anthony Bikina, Most Senior Member of College of Consultors DIOCESE OF JINJA

The Meeting is intended to plan for the funeral arrangements for the Shepherd and Bishop of Jinja, now late Charles Martin Wamika.

The meeting will comprise of at least four Family representatives of Bishop Charles Martin Wamika, Members of the Diocesan Board of Trustees, Members of College of Consultors (Fr Benedict Wakabi, Fr Gerald Muto, Fr Ronald Isiko, Fr John Mary Dumbulu, Fr Joseph Kizito Tibakula, Fr Charles Anthony Bikina, Fr Anthony Bukyanagandi, and Fr John Baptist Mukwaya Kaddu).

All Deans of the Diocese of Jinja, Chairperson Council of Laity-Diocese of Jinja, Chairperson Men’s Guild and Women’s Guild-Diocese of Jinja, Director Caritas Jinja and Diocesan Education Secretary.

Bishop Charles Martin Wamika 72, died yesterday 22nd October 2025.

Born in Budaka in the Eastern region of Uganda, Bishop Wamika was ordained a priest in 1986 and later appointed Bishop in 2009 by Pope Benedict XVI. He succeeded Bishop Joseph Willigers, a Dutch-born missionary who had served Jinja for over four decades.

Throughout his episcopacy, Bishop Wamika was known for advocating moral leadership, peace, and social justice. He often called on the government and citizens to uphold dignity, serve with integrity, and support the vulnerable.

May the soul of Bishop CHARLES MARTIN WAMIKA rest in eternal peace.
