Parliamentary Nominations Kick Off Smoothly Nationwide for 519 Seats

The nomination of aspiring Members of Parliament for the 2026 general elections has officially commenced across the country, with the process reported to be running smoothly on its first day.

The Electoral Commission designated Wednesday, 22nd and Thursday, 23rd October 2025, as the official nomination dates for candidates seeking parliamentary seats.

The exercise is being conducted at Electoral Commission offices located at district and city headquarters nationwide.

Candidates are vying for a total of 519 elective positions, which include 353 directly-elected constituency seats, 146 district and city woman representative positions, and 20 seats for special interest groups representing Older Persons, Persons with Disabilities, Workers, and Youth.

The Commission has urged all aspirants to adhere to nomination requirements and electoral guidelines to ensure a peaceful and orderly process.

The nomination marks a significant milestone in the lead-up to the 2026 general elections, setting the stage for what is expected to be a competitive parliamentary race across the country.
