A total of 42 candidates have been nominated in Wakiso District as the Electoral Commission continues preparations for the 2026 general elections.
However, candidates have been cautioned against holding rallies or campaigning before the official start date set by the Commission.
Tolbert Musinguzi, the Wakiso District Returning Officer, made the announcement during the nomination exercise held on Monday.
He confirmed that the nominated candidates represent various political parties and independents from Nansana Municipality, Entebbe Municipality, Kira Municipality, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, and the Wakiso District Woman MP seat.
Speaking to journalists, Musinguzi noted that the nomination exercise had so far proceeded smoothly but urged compliance with electoral guidelines.
He emphasized that campaigning before the Electoral Commission’s officially designated period remains prohibited.
He also revealed that the exercise will continue on Tuesday, with candidates expected from Kyadondo East, Busiro North, Busiro East, and Busiro South constituencies.
Musinguzi urged all those set to be nominated to ensure they present all the required documentation, including academic papers, to avoid disqualification or delays.
