The Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has urged its supporters to maintain peace at all levels, aiming to dispel the narrative that the party is violent.
Speaking to journalists at Golden Star Hotel in Busia before starting his campaigns in the district, NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi dismissed claims that the campaigns lack energy without tear gas and bullets.
He expressed satisfaction that, unlike the 2021 campaigns, none of his supporters have been harmed by security forces so far.
Kyagulanyi emphasized that they will continue to uphold peace throughout the entire campaign period, leaving no justification for security forces to create chaos.
He also rejected allegations that his campaigns are spreading hatred.
Instead, he challenged the Electoral Commission to investigate which party is actually promoting hate speech, citing Lwengo District Woman MP Hon. Cissy Namujju, who reportedly said that the ruling NRM is prepared to kill those who try to stop them from winning in the Masaka region.
