Pope Leo XIV has called on every Catholic parish around the world to actively participate in World Mission Sunday, which will be observed this year on October 19, 2025.
The annual event, traditionally held on the second-to-last Sunday of October, focuses on supporting missionary work around the globe.
Recalling his own experience as a missionary in Peru, Pope Leo highlighted how the generosity shown on World Mission Sunday makes a concrete difference in sustaining the work of missionaries worldwide.
He encouraged all Catholic parishes to take part in the event, emphasizing that prayers and support from the faithful contribute significantly to spreading the Gospel, supporting pastoral and catechetical programs, building new churches, and addressing the health and educational needs of people in mission territories.
This year’s theme, “Missionaries of Hope among the Peoples,” underscores the vital role missionaries play in bringing hope to communities.
A special collection will be held in parishes across the globe to help fund evangelization efforts and support mission territories directly.
