Launch of Rosary Prayer to Coincide with Jubilee of Marian Spirituality and Historic Anniversary of Vatican II

Pope Leo XIV

Pope Leo XIV has invited Catholics around the world to pray the Rosary daily throughout the month of October, offering the devotion as a plea for peace in regions afflicted by war and violence.

The Pope made the announcement during his Wednesday General Audience, where he outlined a special initiative tied to the Jubilee of Marian Spirituality, to be held on October 11–12 in St. Peter’s Square.

He said that everyone should commit to praying the Rosary each day during the upcoming month personally, with their families, and within their communities as a spiritual offering for peace.

As part of the initiative, the Pope will officially launch the daily Rosary on October 11, the opening day of the Jubilee celebration.

Vatican employees are also scheduled to gather for the Rosary each evening at 7:00 PM in St. Peter’s Basilica throughout the month of October.

The original image of Our Lady of Fatima will be brought to St. Peter’s Square for the event, symbolizing the Blessed Virgin Mary’s role as an intercessor for peace.

In his greetings to Portuguese pilgrims, Pope Leo expressed sorrow over the destruction caused by violent hatred, lamenting the deep suffering and ruin left in its wake.

The October 11 gathering will also coincide with the 63rd anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, which was inaugurated by Pope St. John XXIII in 1962 a pivotal moment in modern Church history.

Pope Leo’s invitation to join in the daily Rosary is being seen as both a spiritual call and a universal appeal for unity, hope, and peace amid ongoing global conflicts.
