FDC Rejects Norbert Mao’s Claim That Uganda’s Leadership Change Requires Negotiation, Not Elections

FDC spokesperson John Kikonyogo

The opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has dismissed statements made by the Minister for Constitutional Affairs and Democratic Party (DP) president, Norbert Mao, who claimed that Uganda cannot achieve leadership change through elections but only through negotiation.

Speaking recently at a welcome home ceremony at Blessed Daudi Okello and Jildo Irwa Catholic Church in Pader town, Norbert Mao asserted that Ugandans should not expect leadership change via elections, arguing that a genuine transition requires negotiation.

Responding to these remarks, FDC spokesperson John Kikonyogo told journalists at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi today that Mao’s position is misleading.

He emphasized that the FDC is not engaged in any negotiations but is focused on preparing for the 2026 national elections to bring about change in Uganda.
