Uganda has officially been granted the opportunity to host the upcoming East African Inter-Parliamentary Games, set to take place this December.
In a communication to the House, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa announced that the East African Community (EAC) Speakers’ Bureau had received formal notification from Burundi indicating its inability to host this year’s games.
Tanzania, which was next in line, also declined the opportunity due to its ongoing election year preparations.
The responsibility then fell to Uganda, which had originally been scheduled to host the games in 2026.
However, Uganda agreed to step in and take on the role a year earlier.
Speaking earlier on Tuesday at Parliament, Speaker Anita Annet Among hosted Moses Wetangula, Speaker of the Kenyan Parliament and current Chairperson of the EAC Speakers’ Bureau.
The two held discussions focused on Uganda’s preparedness to host the annual regional sporting event.
Wetangula extended appreciation to President Yoweri Museveni and Speaker Among for Uganda’s swift acceptance to host the games, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the continuity of this regional tradition.
He confirmed that the games will begin on December 5th, 2025, and run for a period of 12 days.
Preparations are expected to intensify in the coming weeks as Uganda readies it to welcome delegations from across the East African Community for the much-anticipated sporting event.
