Police Speak Out After Crash That Injured Maj. Gen. Sabiiti Muzeyi

Traffic Police Spokesperson SP Michael Kananura

The Uganda Police have officially broken their silence following a harrowing road accident that left Major General Sabiiti Muzeyi, the former Deputy Inspector General of Police, injured and his vehicle mangled beyond recognition.

The crash, which occurred on Saturday afternoon, sent shockwaves across the country, raising concerns over road safety along one of Uganda’s most accident-prone routes.

Maj. Gen. Muzeyi, who currently serves as Deputy CEO of the National Enterprise Corporation, was reportedly returning from a wedding ceremony in Mbarara when the tragedy occurred along the Mbarara–Kampala highway.

Speaking publicly for the first time since the incident, Traffic Police Spokesperson SP Michael Kananura confirmed that the accident happened at approximately 1:40 PM along the Sembabwe–Gomba road in Kabango, Sembabule District.

He said the crash involved a Mitsubishi Fuso truck, registration number UDP 982L, and a Toyota Land Cruiser V8, registration number H4DF, which was transporting the General and his wife.

According to Kananura, both vehicles were traveling in opposite directions when they collided in a violent side-swipe crash at a sharp curve.

The impact left the General’s vehicle with extensive damage, especially on the driver’s side.

No further details were provided about the condition of the General or his wife, but police investigations into the exact cause of the crash are ongoing.

Authorities have urged all motorists to exercise extra caution, particularly on curved sections of major highways, which remain frequent sites of fatal collisions.
