Collins Tanga, son of NRM Electoral Commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi, has expressed disappointment over the party tribunal’s decision to nullify his recent victory as NRM National Youth Chairperson.
The tribunal cited gross irregularities and non-compliance with electoral regulations as the basis for its decision.
According to the official results from the August 27 election, Tanga had secured 1,567 votes, defeating his closest rival Brenda Kiconco, who garnered 1,355 votes.
However, in its ruling, the tribunal, led by John Musiime, noted significant flaws in the electoral process. These included tallying errors and unreliable records, which they argued undermined the credibility of the outcome.
Speaking to the press in Kampala, Tanga criticized the tribunal’s decision, claiming it was based more on speculation than on solid evidence. Nevertheless, he thanked the tribunal for its work and called for calm among his supporters.
“We are ready to return to the race,” Tanga said, adding that his team is already preparing a more aggressive mobilization strategy.
He emphasized the need for the electoral process to genuinely reflect the will of Uganda’s youth and pledged to come back stronger in the upcoming re-election.
