The National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer for Kampala Lord Mayor, Ronald Nsubuga Balimwezo, has pledged to reclaim public drainage channels occupied by wealthy individuals and improve their functionality to curb flooding in the city.

Speaking after his official nomination by Rashid Hasakya, the Kampala District Returning Officer, at the Electoral Commission offices in Ntinda, Balimwezo laid out his key priorities if elected.

These include fighting corruption, improving road infrastructure by leveraging his engineering background, and strengthening garbage collection systems across Kampala.

Balimwezo is among several candidates vying for the Lord Mayor seat in the upcoming elections. Others expected to be nominated include Ibrahim Kasozi of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), as well as independent candidates Nabirah Naggayi Ssempala and Nashibah Namujjuzi.

So far, only two candidates Ronald Balimwezo and Beatrice Mao have been formally nominated for the Lord Mayor race.

Meanwhile, over 50 candidates for Lord Councilor positions have already been nominated, with the exercise still underway.
