The Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of the new parking yard under construction at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Lubaga.
The project, currently at 60% completion, is one of several refurbishment initiatives in preparation for the cathedral’s centenary celebrations scheduled for October 26th.
Engineer Dr. Frederick Kiwanuka, who is overseeing the construction, acknowledged that unpredictable weather conditions have posed challenges and caused some delays.
However, he affirmed that the team is still on track to complete the work within the timeframe allocated, which began in July.
In the Archbishop’s absence, the Vicar General, Msgr. Rogers Mukasa Kabuye, represented him during today’s weekly fundraising event under the “Lubaga Yooyoota” campaign, which continues to rally support from the faithful.
Among the notable contributors was Most Venerable Dr. Kaboggoza Boddharakhita, the Supreme Leader of the Buddhist community in Uganda, who donated UGX 1 million.
Dr. Boddharakhita shared his personal connection to the Catholic Church, revealing that he is the son of the late Teofili Malookweza and a former Head Boy at Uganda Martyrs Lubaga Primary School.
In another generous gesture, Rev. Fr. Vincent Mawejje led the parishioners of St. Kizito Kibiri Parish in presenting a contribution of UGX 3 million towards the ongoing restoration efforts.
This year’s centenary celebration will be held under the theme: “The Temple of God is Sacred; and You Are That Temple.”
