Ugandan manufacturers have been urged to embrace technology, build strong brands, and prioritize quality to expand their market reach and compete globally.
This call was made by Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero, Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, during the launch of the 31st Uganda International Trade Fair at the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) grounds in Lugogo.
In her address, Dr. Musenero emphasized that adopting technology is critical for manufacturers to stay competitive.
She encouraged the use of digital platforms to market products, the adoption of automation to improve efficiency, and investment in research and development to foster innovation and improve product quality.
“Technology is no longer optional. It is the backbone of modern manufacturing. Those who fail to adapt will be left behind,” she said.
Dr. Musenero also highlighted the importance of quality in manufacturing.
She urged Ugandan producers to adhere to international standards, implement strict quality control measures, and ensure products meet customer expectations.
She noted that doing so enhances customer satisfaction, reduces returns and complaints, and strengthens brand reputation.
The 31st Uganda International Trade Fair, scheduled for October 2nd to 12th, 2025, is expected to host over 1,000 local manufacturers and 150 international exhibitors.
This year, UMA has partnered with MTN Uganda to enhance convenience for attendees, tickets will be available via MTN MoMo, and digital payments for goods at the fair will also be enabled through the platform.
