The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has extended an open invitation to opposition candidates who feel sidelined or denied party endorsements particularly those unable to secure party cards for the upcoming 2026 general elections.
PLU Secretary General David Kabanda made the announcement while addressing the media at the party’s offices in Ntinda, Kampala.
His remarks come amid reports that several candidates from the National Unity Platform (NUP) failed to obtain the party flag, prompting some to consider contesting as independents.
Kabanda encouraged such candidates to consider joining the PLU, positioning the movement as a political alternative for those feeling excluded by their current parties.
Meanwhile, the PLU, under the leadership of Chairman Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is preparing to resume structural appointments at sub-county, sub-regional, and district levels across the country.
Kabanda stated that these appointments are aimed at strengthening grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2026 elections.
He noted that those selected will be tasked with rallying support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the ruling NRM’s presidential flag bearer, with the ambitious goal of securing 80% of the national vote.
As political momentum builds, the PLU continues to position itself as a growing force within Uganda’s political landscape.
