The opposition Democratic Party (DP) has announced that its National Executive Committee (NEC) will take charge of selecting party flag bearers in certain districts and constituencies to prevent corruption.
On September 4-5, 2025, the party convened all 54 NEC members in Mbarara City for a strategic brainstorming session focused on critical party issues ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Speaking to the media at the party headquarters on Balintuma Road in Mengo, DP President and Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao revealed concerns over the integrity of some district committees responsible for awarding party tickets.
He noted that these committees have, at times, proven untrustworthy, risking the allocation of party flags to unsuitable candidates.
To address this, Mao announced that the NEC will now directly decide on party tickets for districts including Kampala and its constituencies, Wakiso and its constituencies, Greater Masaka, Jinja District, and Jinja City.
He emphasized that this move aims to foster party unity and avoid losing elections in these strategically important areas.
