HRNJ Organizes Training to Equip Journalists on Ethics and Safety Ahead of 2026 Elections

HRNJ Executive Director Robert Ssempala

As the 2026 general elections draw near, the Human Rights Network for Journalists Uganda (HRNJ), a non-governmental organization defending journalists’ rights, has organized a two-day training for journalists on ethical conduct and professionalism.

The training, taking place at Eureka Place Hotel in Ntinda, aims to equip journalists with the journalistic code of ethics and relevant laws to ensure their safety during the election season.

John Baptist Wasswa, a renowned journalism lecturer at various universities in Uganda, is the lead facilitator for the training.

HRNJ Executive Director Robert Ssempala said that following these workshops, defenders of journalists’ rights will more boldly urge other stakeholders to take necessary measures to protect journalists while on duty.

He reiterated that HRNJ remains committed to justice for journalists whose rights are violated in the course of their work.

The ongoing training is organized in collaboration with the French Embassy in Kampala.
