The Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, has urged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith and continue supporting the Church, despite ongoing contributions already being made within their parishes.
Speaking during a fundraising event for the renovation of Rubaga Cathedral in preparation for its centenary celebrations, Archbishop Ssemogerere reminded believers that the Church still depends on their generosity to sustain her mission and activities.
The event was held under the theme: “The temple of God is sacred, you are the temple.”
On the day, parishes within the Mitala Maria Vicariate demonstrated their commitment by contributing over 36 million shillings, a donation presented by the Episcopal Vicar, Rev. Fr. Francis Xavier Kikomeko.
Mawokota North Member of Parliament, Hon. Hillary Innocent Kiyaga also known as Dr. Hilderman joined the cause with a personal contribution of 1 million shillings.
According to a report from Freeman Kiyimba, head of the fundraising committee, over 1.4 billion shillings has so far been raised.
The contributions have come from various vicariates and individuals, including a notable 30 million shillings donation from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Project engineer and head of the organizing committee, Eng. Pius Mugerwa Mugaalasi, revealed that the planned renovations include the installation of digital billboards, expansion of the cathedral compound, and construction of a two-way parking facility, among other improvements.
In his closing remarks, Archbishop Ssemogerere encouraged the faithful to maintain a spirit of generosity, reminding them that material wealth is temporary and ultimately left behind to be shared after one’s passing.
