Police have launched investigations following an incident where at least three women sustained life-threatening injuries in an explosion at Buziga Country Resort in Makindye Division on Sunday evening.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the blast occurred around 8:30 PM inside the sauna area of the resort.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion followed by smoke and flames.
Among the most severely injured was 69-year-old Hajjati Mastula, the vice chairperson of Katuuso village, who suffered serious burns on her chest and back.
Two other victims Zahara Nakaweesi, who sustained burns across her body and a broken leg, and Mamrum Aisha, with severe burns were also critically hurt.
The victims were initially rushed to Kiruddu Hospital and later transferred to Nsambya and Mulago Hospitals for further treatment.
Preliminary investigations suggest significant structural damage at the scene, with part of the sauna collapsing and the remaining walls showing severe cracks.
Debris, including broken glass, was found scattered across the premises.
Owoyesigyire says they are continuing investigations to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
