Archbishop Ssemogerere Mourns Papal Knight Tofiri Kivumbi Malookweza

The Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, has paid tribute to the late Papal Knight, Tofiri Kivumbi Malookweza, describing him as a generous and God-fearing man who dedicated his life to both the Catholic Church and the Buganda Kingdom.

Malookweza, aged 97, passed away on Saturday, 16th August 2025. He will be laid to rest tomorrow in Masaka.

During a requiem mass at Lubaga Cathedral, Archbishop Ssemogerere highlighted Malookweza’s great impact as Kaggo, the head of Kyadondo County, and as a Papal Knight.

He praised him for his devotion to the Church, including his support for seminarians through school fees and scholastic needs.

The Archbishop also commended the late for raising his children responsibly, noting that they cared for him until his death without selling off his property.

He urged Ugandans to reject greed and corruption and instead fight for better service delivery.

Representing the Katikiro of Buganda, the Speaker of the Buganda Lukiiko, Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule, hailed Malookweza for his unconditional service to the Kingdom.

He noted that as Kyadondo Chief, Malookweza bridged traditional customs with modern governance and worked tirelessly to support the Kabaka’s vision.

Meanwhile, Wakiso District Governor hopeful Emmanuel Ssempala Kigozi Ssajjalyabeene said Malookweza leaves behind a legacy of service above self, a virtue he encouraged leaders in power to emulate for the good of the nation.
