The Local Organizing Committee for CHAN 2024 has warned fans against purchasing physical tickets for the tournament, cautioning that such tickets may be fake or duplicated.
This warning was issued by Dr. Dennis Mugimba, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, while addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala.
He emphasized that fans should only buy tickets online and verifies the print quality to avoid problems at stadium entry points.
Dr. Mugimba clarified that although the Confederation of African Football (CAF) initially allowed the sale of approximately 4,000 physical tickets at FUFA House before match day one, no further physical ticket sales are authorized.
Regarding accommodation concerns for national teams, Dr. Mugimba reaffirmed that the Government of Uganda, as host of CHAN 2024, is responsible for covering hotel expenses for all participating teams.
These costs are included in the $13 million commitment fee paid to CAF for hosting rights.
This clarification follows public concern sparked by a viral video showing Uganda Cranes players walking from a location that many felt did not reflect the stature of a national team.
Dr. Mugimba explained that the hotel where the Uganda Cranes are staying was proposed by FUFA and approved by CAF.
He also urged fans to maintain discipline while attending matches, citing a recent incident during a match at Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani, where fans broke through the fence and disrupted the game.
As a result, CAF fined Kenya USD 50,000 and Morocco USD 5,000 for safety and security breaches.
On President Museveni’s earlier UGX 1.2 billion pledge for every Uganda Cranes victory, Dr. Mugimba stated that the organizing team has not yet seen any of the pledged funds but would welcome it being deposited directly into players’ accounts.
Uganda returns to action on Monday, 18th August, in a must-win match against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
