The CHAN 2024 Local Organizing Committee has called on the public to respect traffic guidelines issued by the Uganda Police Force to minimize disruptions for those not involved in the tournament.
During a media briefing at the Uganda Media Centre, Dr. Dennis Mugimba, Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee, stressed that adherence to traffic rules will help reduce congestion before, during, and after match days.
Dr. Mugimba expressed appreciation for the Uganda Railway Corporation’s free mass transport service on August 4th, which facilitated fan travel to Namboole Stadium. He confirmed that the train service remains free to ticket holders and warned against any unauthorized charges.
Addressing concerns from the August 4th match, Dr. Mugimba apologized for the shortage of food and beverages at stadium kiosks and assured that all kiosks will be fully operational for upcoming games, offering items at affordable prices thanks to tax exemptions.
He also reminded fans of items banned inside the stadium, including laser pointers, sharp objects, face-concealing masks, political banners, food and drinks, alcohol, and drugs.
Significantly, the committee announced that all match tickets will now be sold exclusively online.
This measure follows incidents of inflated prices by unauthorized physical ticket vendors and will be extended to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Uganda will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania.
Meanwhile, the Uganda Cranes prepare to face Guinea on August 8, 2025. Uganda lost their opening match 3-0 to Algeria, while Guinea secured a win against Niger in their first game.
