Parliament today paid glowing tribute to His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the Kabaka of Buganda, as he marked 32 years since his coronation.
In her communication to the August House, Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among commended the Kabaka for his outstanding contribution to national development, noting that his leadership has positively impacted not only the Buganda Kingdom, but the entire nation.
“His Majesty has championed a number of social and economic initiatives that continue to uplift the lives of many Ugandans,” the Speaker remarked.
Bugiri Municipality MP Asuman Basalirwa also praised the Kabaka for his exemplary and inclusive leadership, saying he has continued to embrace and work with people from all regions of Uganda.
He called on the central government to honor its commitments to the Buganda Kingdom, particularly regarding outstanding compensation claims.
“It’s time for the government to fulfill its obligations and respect the historical and legal claims of the Kingdom,” Basalirwa asserted.
The tribute in Parliament comes as the Kingdom and its people across the country celebrate three decades of steady leadership under Kabaka Mutebi, who was crowned on July 31, 1993.
