The Uganda Police Force and sister security agencies have launched a large-scale deployment operation across Kampala, Entebbe, and key sports venues ahead of the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which will run from August 2 to 29.
Addressing the media, Police Spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke confirmed that a joint security team comprising the Uganda Police Force, Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), intelligence services, and the Uganda Prisons Service has completed comprehensive threat assessments and is fully prepared to safeguard the month-long tournament.
“While CHAN is a celebration of football, it is also a high-profile event that presents potential security challenges, as seen in other countries,” Rusoke said. “We are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of players, fans, and officials.”
Fans attending CHAN matches should expect thorough security checks at all stadiums, be prepared to follow designated seating arrangements, and cooperate with both uniformed and plainclothes security personnel.
In addition, security command centers will be established at all major venues to handle medical emergencies, lost persons, and general public assistance.
Authorities are appealing to all attendees to remain vigilant and compliant, noting that public cooperation is key to the tournament’s safe and successful execution.
