Ivan Kisaakye, a former journalist with Salt and Top TV, has officially declared his intention to contest for the presidency in the upcoming general elections.
Speaking during a press briefing at Makindye Forest Park, Kisaakye said his presidential ambition is driven by the desire to fight for the rights of journalists, many of whom, he claimed, are continuously denied justice while performing their duties.
Kisaakye described Uganda as one of the richest nations in both East Africa and the African continent, but blamed poor governancefor the country’s economic and social challenges.
He pointed to the increasing number of Ugandans leaving the country to take on low-paying jobs in the Middle East as a direct result of failed leadership and lack of opportunities at home.
He further criticized Uganda’s education system, stating that it no longer meets the needs of a modern economy.
As part of his presidential vision, Kisaakye pledged to introduce an industrial system of governance, where children begin their education by focusing on the practical skills and professions they intend to pursue in the future.
“We must prepare our children from the grassroots level to become the professionals and innovators of tomorrow,” Kisaakye said.
His announcement adds a new face to the growing list of aspirants eyeing the country’s top seat as the election season draws closer.
