Pope Leo XIV has strongly condemned the global arms trade, calling it a major source of human suffering and senseless killings of innocent people around the world.
Speaking to journalists on his return to the Vatican from a 16-day summer retreat at Castel Gandolfo, the Pope addressed several international concerns, including conflict zones.
When asked about the possibility of visiting war-torn areas such as Gaza, Pope Leo responded: “There are many places I would personally like to go, but that is not necessarily the formula for finding a solution.”
He went on to highlight the dehumanizing impact of the arms industry. “Many times, with the arms trade, people become just tools without any value,” he said. “We must constantly insist on the dignity of every human being — Christian, Muslim, people of every religion — because we are all God’s children, created in God’s image.”
Pope Leo expressed gratitude that the voice of the Church still holds influence in global discourse and concluded with a heartfelt prayer for peace.
