Retired Supreme Court Justice George William Kanyeihamba will be accorded a state burial, complete with a gun salute, the government has confirmed.
The announcement was made by Minister for the Presidency, Milly Babirye Babalanda, during a special Supreme Court session held this afternoon in Kampala to honour the late Hon. Justice Professor Kanyeihamba.
Minister Babalanda directed the Uganda Police to oversee all official burial proceedings, including the ceremonial gun salute.
She also urged residents near the burial site to remain calm, assuring the public that the government will provide adequate security at all venues.
The memorial session attracted prominent figures from the judiciary and legal fraternity.
Among those in attendance were Chief Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo, several Supreme Court justices, Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka, and Vice President of the Uganda Law Society, Anthony Asiimwe.
Speakers praised Professor Kanyeihamba, 85, for his selfless contributions to Uganda’s judicial system and constitutional development.
He will be laid to rest on Tuesday, 29th July 2025, at his residence in Buziga, Makindye Division.
