No students were injured after a fire broke out at Uganda Martyrs High School – Bweya in Kajjansi, Wakiso District, completely destroying a boys’ dormitory that housed over 100 Senior One and Two students.
According to police, the fire occurred while students were in class for evening prep, which likely prevented a major tragedy.
The blaze quickly engulfed the isolated two-room structure, reducing it to ashes and destroying all student belongings inside.
Members of the school community attempted to contain the fire, but it was only fully brought under control after a response from the Entebbe fire brigade.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango stated that the cause of the fire remains unknown.
The police have since cordoned off the area, and investigations are underway, including plans to reconstruct the scene to aid in the inquiry.
