Sanyu Baby’s Home launches groundbreaking clean energy project to boost sustainability and health

Sanyu Baby’s Home launches groundbreaking clean energy project

Sanyu Baby’s Home has unveiled a transformative clean energy project aimed at reducing utility costs and improving the health and nutrition of its residents.

The innovative system, which combines electricity generation, water heating and clean cooking technologies, marks a major milestone in the facility’s commitment to sustainability and the well-being of its children.

The project, which cost a total of UGX 353 million, was described by Barbara Nankya Mutagubya, the Executive Director of Sanyu Baby’s Home, as a long-term investment that will continue to benefit the facility for years to come. While Nankya did not specify the exact allocation of the investment toward the clean cooking system, she emphasized the importance of the entire project in reducing operational costs and improving living conditions.

The initiative was made possible through a 50% grant of UGX 176 million from SNV, an international development organization.

The remaining funds were generously raised through donations from well-wishers and philanthropic partners, underscoring the community’s commitment to supporting vulnerable children.

Before the implementation of the clean energy system, the home was spending between UGX 1.2 million and 1.5 million monthly on electricity alone.

Since transitioning to the new system, the monthly electricity bill has dropped dramatically to UGX 400,000 to 500,000, a significant reduction that will allow the facility to allocate more resources toward other essential needs for its residents.

The launch of this clean energy initiative is a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation in addressing the challenges faced by institutions that care for vulnerable populations.

It also sets a strong example for other facilities to embrace sustainable energy solutions as a means to improve operational efficiency and enhance the well-being of those they serve.

The project is expected to have a lasting impact, not only in terms of cost savings but also in improving the overall living standards at Sanyu Baby’s Home.
