Kampala Woman MP Shamim Malende arrested

Police in Kampala have confirmed the arrest of Kampala Woman Member of Parliament, Shamim Malende, following her emotionally charged return to Uganda earlier on Monday.

Malende, who has spent the past three months in Nairobi receiving intensive medical treatment, was detained in downtown Kampala during a procession held in her honor after her arrival from Entebbe Airport.

The legislator was met at the airport by an ecstatic crowd of supporters, who had gathered to welcome her back home.

Before joining the procession to Kampala, Malende briefly addressed the press, expressing gratitude and relief after her extended medical absence.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, Malende was arrested alongside five of her supporters: Ivan Mugisha, Godfrey Golooba, Robert Kasibante, Rogers Ssemakula, and Paul Mujipi.

However, sources indicate that all six individuals were later released on police bond.
