Three NRM youth supporters who were arrested in connection with acts of violence and robbery during the nomination of President Yoweri Museveni have been granted bail by the Buganda Road Court.
The suspects Brian Kisinze (19), Jamil Kyambadde (23), and Anthony Odur (18) had spent approximately two weeks in Luzira Prison.
They were charged with robbery, theft, and assault following a chaotic incident that occurred on Saturday, June 28th, during the President’s procession to pick nomination forms for the NRM National Chairmanship and the party’s presidential flag bearer slot ahead of the 2026 general elections.
At least 30 youths were arrested two days after the incident and later arraigned in court.
The three who were granted bail were released on a cash bond of UGX 1 million each, while their parents, who stood as sureties, were required to pay UGX 5 million non-casheach.
Presiding magistrate Doreen Ainembabazi further ordered the parents to present registration forms for the National Identification Cards (IDs) from the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) before the release of their children could be finalized.
The suspects were arrested in the areas of Nakasero II and Yusuf Lule Road following a violent episode that resulted in the death of a mobile money operator, who was reportedly stabbed during the commotion.
The case has been adjourned to August 6, 2025, for hearing.
