The Common Ground Council (CGC) of the People’s Front for Transition (PFT) and the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) has jointly called on the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) to arrest and prosecute all individuals involved in acts of violence during the party’s ongoing primaries.
During a press conference held at the ANT headquarters in Bukoto, PFT National Chairperson Erias Lukwago expressed deep concern over recent violent incidents, including the loss of life in Ssembabule and the burning of vehicles in various parts of the country.
Lukwago criticized the lack of accountability, saying no perpetrators have been apprehended, allegedly because they are affiliated with the NRM.
“It is unacceptable that people can lose lives and property can be destroyed in broad daylight during a party’s internal processes, yet no one is held accountable simply because they belong to the ruling party,” Lukwago stated.
He urged the government to take action to prevent such acts from resurfacing during the 2026 general elections.
ANT National Coordinator Alice Alaso echoed the call for restraint, challenging the NRM to conduct peaceful primaries to avoid further destruction of property and the risk of more lives being lost.
The joint statement underscores growing concern among opposition leaders and civil society about the recurring violence that often accompanies the NRM’s internal electoral processes.
