As Uganda moves closer to the 2026 general elections, citizens are being cautioned against engaging in politics of division, mudslinging, and character assassination.
With the electoral roadmap launched in 2023 now in full swing, elections for Special Interest Groups at the Village and Parish levels have already been completed.
In the coming months, nominations for Parliamentary candidates are expected, followed by Presidential nominations in October.
Speaking at St. Charles Lwanga Parish, Kyabakadde in Lugazi Diocese, the Head of Laity, Dr. Augustine Kato, expressed concern over growing political hostility.
He noted that it is unfortunate to see people turning against each other due to political differences, even though they all seek leadership roles aimed at serving the nation.
Dr. Kato said during his address that it is sad that some are already fighting one another resorting to mudslinging and character assassination when we should be focused on unity and service.
He also extended gratitude to all who contributed towards the success of this year’s Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations, held on June 3rd, 2025, at the Catholic Shrine in Namugongo. The event was led by Lugazi Diocese.
Dr. Kato urged the faithful to remain firm in their faith and draw inspiration from the unwavering commitment of the Uganda Martyrs.
