President Museveni tasks media to safeguard Parish Development Model from corruption

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has unveiled a new directive positioning the media as a critical force in protecting the Parish Development Model (PDM) from corruption, inefficiency, and mismanagement.

Speaking during an engagement with journalists from Wakiso District at the State Lodge in Nakasero, the President emphasized the government’s intention to work more deliberately with the media.

He said journalists will play a key role in monitoring the implementation of the PDM, investigating incidents of theft, and educating citizens about the program’s purpose and benefits.

Describing the PDM as an “experimental model” with strong potential to uplift rural communities and eradicate poverty, the President noted that it builds upon previous government initiatives such as Entandikwa, NAADS, and Operation Wealth Creation (OWC).

Unlike earlier programs, he said, the PDM is designed to empower households directly.

Museveni admitted that some earlier interventions were derailed by corruption and poor management.

To avoid a repeat, he stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in the implementation of PDM funds.

The President also announced additional government support for communities benefiting from the PDM.

This support will include infrastructure improvements such as boreholes, as well as provisions like animal feeds.

In a stern warning to wrongdoers, Museveni declared that individuals who embezzle PDM funds will face serious consequences.
