The legal fraternity is in shock following the sudden and unexplained death of Fatumah Bbuye Nabiwemba, a 47-year-old State Attorney attached to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Her body was discovered on the evening of 10th July 2025 at her home in Wampeewo, Kasangati Town Council, where she lived alone.
The grim discovery was made after colleagues raised concern over her unexplained absence from work for several days.
Hamuza Kabanda, a driver at the DPP headquarters, formally reported the matter to police at around 8:36 p.m.
Nabiwemba, known among colleagues for her professionalism and dedication to justice, had last been seen nearly four days earlier.
Police from Kasangati Division, led by the Division Police Commander, responded to the scene, conducted a search, and recovered items believed to be of evidential value.
Her body was later transferred to the City Mortuary for a postmortem to determine the cause of death.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
Nabiwemba’s death has sparked concern among legal professionals, many of whom have called for thorough investigations to ensure transparency and address growing anxieties within the justice sector.
Her passing marks a significant loss to the Office of the DPP, where she played a critical role in prosecuting criminal cases and upholding the rule of law.
