President Museveni pledges increased PDM funding for urban parishes

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reaffirmed plans to increase funding for the Parish Development Model (PDM), with a particular focus on urban and town parishes, where population density and the number of potential beneficiaries are significantly higher than in rural areas.

Currently, each parish receives UGX 100 million annually under the program, supporting 100 households with UGX 1 million each for income-generating activities.

However, President Museveni noted that this allocation is merely a starting point, and that increased funding especially for urban parishes is expected soon.

He acknowledged that the current uniform allocation may not be equitable, as urban areas face greater demand and more complex socio-economic challenges compared to rural communities.

The President made these remarks on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, as he concluded the third day of his PDM assessment tour with a visit to Ms. Lillian Nagawa, a program beneficiary from Kaazi Village, Busabala Parish in Makindye Ssabagabo, Wakiso District.

He praised beneficiaries who have successfully used the UGX 1 million to venture into projects such as piggery, poultry, goat rearing, and cattle keeping earning up to UGX 1.6 million in profit and transforming their households in the process.
