The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project has reached a 67% completion milestone, with significant progress reported in recent developments.
One of the latest achievements is the completion of a Pump Station in Buseruka Sub-county, Hoima district.
This station will be pivotal in transporting crude oil from the Kingfisher and Tilenga oil fields towards Sembabule and ultimately to the border with Tanzania, where the oil will be shipped to the port city of Tanga.
Hadi Watfa, the Lot One Manager, announced that pipe installation is scheduled to begin in August, with 18 out of the 34% of required equipment already positioned at the site.
Watfa further revealed that all construction facilities are expected to be mechanically completed by June 2026, marking a critical milestone in the project’s timeline.
In related news, Mercy Kitimbo Asiku, a lecturer at Kyambogo University’s Faculty of Engineering, is urging science students to consider courses in oil and gas, inspired by the ongoing EACOP project.
Asiku highlighted the long-term nature of the project, which will provide numerous job opportunities for graduates over the years.
The EACOP project spans 1,443 kilometers from Hoima in Uganda to Tanga in Tanzania, with Uganda hosting 296 kilometers of the pipeline.
It involves the construction of two pump stations in Uganda, four in Tanzania, and other essential infrastructure.
