Over 250 Kasana-Luweero pilgrims set for spiritual journey to Rome

Rt. Rev. Bishop Lawrence Mukasa

At least 250 pilgrims from the Kasana-Luweero Diocese have been officially flagged off for their pilgrimage to Rome as part of the 2025 Jubilee Year celebrations.

Each pilgrim contributed over Shs7 million for the spiritual journey, which marks a significant moment in the global Catholic Church’s Jubilee festivities.

The send-off began with a special blessing Mass held at Our Lady of Fatima, Queen of Peace Kasana Cathedral.

During the Mass, Rt. Rev. Bishop Lawrence Mukasa urged the faithful to surrender completely to God as they embarked on their week-long journey to the Eternal City.

Pilgrim Moreen Kabacwezi from Kakooge Parish echoed Bishop Mukasa’s caution against carrying fetishes, citing the contradiction of some Catholics practicing both witchcraft and Christianity.

She expressed hope that the pilgrimage would bring blessings and relief from personal struggles.

Following the Mass, Rev. Fr. Dr. Lawrence Kizito Kimbowa who has led the ten-month-long preparations briefed the pilgrims on travel arrangements.

The group will fly with Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, and Turkish Airlines.

Before departure, pilgrims gathered for a final closed-door meeting to receive last-minute guidance.

The 2025 Jubilee Year, themed “Pilgrims of Hope,” was inaugurated by Pope Francis on December 24, 2024.

In Kasana-Luweero Diocese, Bishop Mukasa symbolically opened the Cathedral’s main entrance on December 29, 2024, as part of the global call to renew faith through pilgrimages.

The pilgrims, led by Bishop Mukasa, are scheduled to depart on Saturday, July 5, 2025, from Kasana-Luweero Diocesan headquarters to Entebbe International Airport.
