The Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC) has been faulted by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) for causing a financial loss of UGX 306 million to the government.
According to the Auditor General’s report for the financial year 2023/2024, the loss stemmed from the DCIC’s failure to collect fines from foreign nationals who overstayed their visas in Uganda.
The report revealed that 103 foreign nationals remained in the country illegally, continuing to work without penalties imposed on them or their employers.
During a session chaired by PAC Deputy Chairperson Gorreth Namuga, the committee questioned DCIC’s Permanent Secretary, Maj. Gen. Apollo Kasiita-Gowa, and directed the directorate to submit a detailed list of the foreign nationals involved and the companies employing them.
