President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has attributed the rising wave of youth uprisings across Africa to the lack of deliberate wealth creation strategies and the failure to fully monetize national resources.
The President was responding to a question from a Kenyan officer who asked what leaders were failing to understand about Generation Z, which is fueling growing unrest across the continent.
He made the remarks while delivering a Lecture of Opportunity to 52 senior military officers attending the Senior Command and Staff Course Grade Two at the Senior Command and Staff College in Kimaka, Jinja City.
During the lecture, President Museveni engaged the officers on key themes including youth unrest, patriotism, Pan-Africanism, wealth creation, and sustainable peace framing all within the broader agenda of Africa’s socio-economic transformation.
He stressed the need for African nations to transition from donor-dependent policies to home-grown strategies that promote wealth creation and inclusive participation in the money economy.
President Museveni further urged the continent’s leaders to pursue Pan-African economic integration as the only sustainable path toward lasting stability and shared prosperity.
The regional one-year course drew participants from Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya, South Sudan, and Malawi.
Brig. Michael Kabango, the commandant of the College, was also in attendance.
In his conclusion, Museveni called on African governments and citizens to prioritize the transformation of subsistence economies into monetized systems driven by productivity, innovation, and regional integration.
