Opposition in Parliament questions legality of suspect killings by security forces

Shadow Minister of Defence Derrick Nyeko

The opposition in Parliament is considering launching an inquiry to determine their next course of action following the recent shooting of suspects by security agencies.

This follows a statement by Major General Felix Kulayigye, Director of Defence Public Information, who defended the security forces’ actions at Kalerwe earlier this week.

Kulayigye stated that the suspects, described as suicide bombers, posed an immediate threat to national security and were therefore neutralized on the spot.

In response, Shadow Minister of Defence Derrick Nyeko questioned the legality of the killings, arguing that the suspects were denied due process and justice.

Nyeko, who also serves as the MP for Makindye East, condemned what he described as growing impunity among security forces.

He stressed that this issue is of national concern, especially with regard to justice and human rights, as the country prepares for the 2026 general elections.
