The opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has extended the submission deadline for Expression of Interest (EOI) forms by one month to allow all interested members, who were previously left out, to submit their applications.
The initial deadline, set for 23rd June 2025, has now been extended to 25th July 2025.
Addressing journalists at the party headquarters on Tuesday, Harriet Chemutai, the NUP Party Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, explained that many party members who had picked up Expression of Interest forms were unable to meet the original deadline.
She cited delays caused by the bureaucracy within the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) and the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB), as well as difficulties faced by members living in remote areas.
Chemutai added that, starting tomorrow, 25th June 2025, the party will be receiving completed forms at all regional party offices.
Submissions will be accepted from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily until 25th July 2025.
Aspirants have been advised to come with no more than 10 supporters in order to ensure smooth operations and accommodate other party activities.
Chemutai also condemned the National Electoral Commission (NEC) Chairperson’s directive to re-verify the academic documents of all candidates.
She described this move as a waste of both time and resources, particularly for leaders who had already undergone the verification process in 2021.
