The National Unity Platform (NUP) has on Monday officially closed the nomination process for party members seeking to contest on the NUP ticket in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
The exercise, which began on 2nd June, attracted a large number of aspiring candidates from across the country.
According to the party’s Electoral Committee, the process has been smooth and successful.
Committee members extended their gratitude to the media for their consistent coverage throughout the nomination period.
John Mary Ssebuufu, the Buganda representative on the NUP Electoral Committee, announced that the committee will now convene for an evaluation meeting.
He added that the party will hold a press briefing on Tuesday to update the public on the next steps in the vetting and selection process.
Among the prominent figures who returned their nomination forms today was Hon. Ronald Balimwezo, who is vying for the position of Mayor of Kampala.
Also returning his forms was the Buganda Vice President and current Butambala County MP, Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi.
He affirmed his commitment to follow the decisions of the Electoral Committee and expressed his desire to continue representing the people of Butambala.
As the party prepares for the next phase of the electoral process, NUP supporters and aspiring candidates now await the outcomes of the vetting and internal selection processes that will shape the party’s final lineup for 2026.
